Mardi Gras Greetings, Henna Fans!

The yearly festival of revelry and debauchery is upon us this weekend! I invite you to use it to celebrate yourself, your life and the ones you love... with fabulous body art, of course! The 5th Annual Castle Carnevale is this Saturday Night, RAIN or SHINE!!! It's considered the Mardi Gras of the Carolinas, and it's right in our backyard! Its a true blue masquerade with DJ's, Dancing, Aerial Performers, Fire Theatrix, Belly Dancers, Burlesque, Fireworks and oh yeah, it all happens in and around a castle. Be the best part of the show by dressing up and entering the costume contest.

Tamara Brown of Opal Moon Henna and WendyMehndi will be there to decorate you with our version of a good time - beautiful body art. We'll be in the Hillside Terrace Tent, right before the Crystal Garden. Of course we'll have our standard beautiful Henna and Glitter Body Art creations that last for a week or more... But, just in case you don't want everyone at work to know just how crazy you got over the weekend, we'll also be offering more temporary face and body painting and glitter gels. They will easily wash off with your next shower.
So, don't worry, your secret party life will be safe with us!

The tickets are available online or at the gate, but in this weeks YES WEEKLY there is a coupon for 1/2 off gate price admission of $30 ~ you will be able to get in for $15 with coupon ~~ tell all your friends !!

In addition to the fantastic Body Art at your disposal, Tamara has also been hard at work on brand new hennaed candle holders, with new sizes and shapes to choose from. We'd be glad to hold your purchases til the end of the night so you don't have to carry them around with you.

Opal Moon Henna with Wendy Mehndi at Castle Carnevale, Hosted By Castle McCulloch
Saturday, February 28, 8:00 pm - 2:00 am

Tamara says "One of my favorite events of the year that finally here! Join Opal Moon Henna at the Carolina's Mardi Gras! Fire theatres, aerial performers, fantastic fireworks - there's so much to see! Experience the revelry and spectacle while being adorned with memorable body art to complement your fabulous outfit or costume. My henna-friend, Wendy Mehndi, will join and add her own artistic flair to the party. See her work at www. wendhmehndi. com. In addition to Henna and Glitter tattoos than can last for weeks, we'll have some glitz and glam that will decorate you just for that night, too.
If you prefer to keep your wild side under wraps, this is a great option to whoop it up and have no one be the wiser come Monday morning!"

Oh so very true..........................

"There's a lot more going on behind your eyes than anyone realizes. Your thoughts are flying all over the place today, yet it's hard to turn any of them into concrete reality now. This doesn't mean they are bad ideas; it just means that your timing may be off if you push too hard. Your optimism returns later in the day and you should be able to move forward again, as long as you don't rush things more than you should."

..........and also..............

The Moon is in Libra

Increased sociability, interest in new acquaintances, a desire for mutual understanding. Partnerships are in focus. Good for social gatherings, celebrations, business meetings and a romantic rendezvous. However, your ability to make decisions suffers because people are more prone to doubts and hesitation now.

So I really keep meaning to get back to it, and so here goes! I realize I've been away. Quite away. Postings far and few........... so, even if it's rambling bits of nonsense, I'll try to keep up. Such as............

Concerning Hermit Crabs...
We have 5 crabbies these days. "Hagrid" the big Ecuadorian Strawberry Crab we had passed away this year. I guess I need to wait until Summer, until they're shipping crabs to the shops again. Mostly during the winter they borrow under the substrate and hide. They're much sillier in the summer.
But I so do love it when you walk by the tank, and there's a crab sitting in the wee tiny food bowl, noshing, and you can almost hear the audible gasp and squeak as they do a Breakfast Club/Ally Sheedy-type face-plant when ya walk by (<---first few seconds of the video).
Odd thought for the day.

Happy 2009 everyone.

Hi all,
I'm appealing to the general Doggie Network to find a home for "Amber".
She was found out here on Sunday Nov. 9, and oddly no one seems to be looking for her.
About a year old, with great teeth (that's why I think she is young).
Very sweet. Submissive to the other dogs.
Unsure about coming into the house.
Un-spayed - she will need that taken care of. She was in heat when she showed up.
She is good with the kids, though, I suggest that she is too powerful to be around small kids.
Although very gentle, she is a puppy, and very muscular.

Here's hoping she can find a lovely new home.
Thanks, everyone!

Symbolic henna design created for my dear friend Eileen during Election Night 2008. Mouse over the pic for the details...

The sun, rising from the darkness...
Thirteen stars for the 13 original colonies...
A message of Hope, with Peace within...
Wings of Freedom...
An "O" for Obama...
An eye, looking forward to our future...

We cooked a delicious dinner of chicken, brown rice, and sweet potato casserole. We drank Blue drinks.. and joked that the new national beverage may be the Blue Hawaiian! LOL

The Gratitude Campaign
"I started to think that it would be nice if civilians had a gesture or sign that they could use to say "thank you" quickly and easily without even having to approach. I did some research and found the sign that we are now using."

When I traveled in Turkey, one of my roommates was an American woman who served in Iraq. Her job was Support. She told me that she felt compelled to go there, to offer what she could for the people who had to deal with what was going on. She lived there, on Base, in a teeny half a trailer space, to provide Morale. And Games. And an Ear to listen, and a Heart to Care. I've often thought of what she'd done, and how grateful I am to know that there someone out there for many of the young men to cry on and to laugh with.

I don't like the war in Iraq. I realize I may not ever understand all the reasons that our leaders think we needed to be there. But we are.

But I thank the Soldiers who are serving, and have served.

"It's challenging enough for you to keep up with your fantasies today so don't bother trying to bring others along on your ride. Instead, concentrate on creative endeavors. You can burn off some of your excess energy by doing something that is enjoyable, especially if you make life beautiful in the process." (today's Libra, from Tarot.com)

Wow. And tonight is the first of the "Last Fridays" events in Downtown Hillsborough!!

WendyMehndi will be doing henna on Churton Street, just outside of Spiral Studios / Callaway Jewelry :)

Why???

Why are the Dog Gods doing this??????
Or is it just Bastet having a Good Laugh?
Why is it not the adorable snuggly brilliant Papillon that I want?
Oh no - it's the Basset, the Cattle Dog... the kinds I'm not, well, drawn to.

In December it was the Basset Hound, found starved, ribs showing, sweet as can be. He's found a great home with our friends and is almost done being treated for his heartworms. He's found his Forever Home. He was easy. My dogs got along well with him - he was so mild-mannered. Lifted the leg in the house too many times. But sweet. Very sweet. We even get to visit him.

Tonight it's the brindle Australian Cattle Dog.
Just *left* on the side of our road.
Left there.
Waiting... just waiting...

With a bright-orange dayglo collar on... (so you don't run him over?)
and a tangle of cable-lead with a leash-clip on each end... (in case you want to take him home and tie him up?)
2 empty styrofoam plates (must have been dinner)
and his "blankie" (which he was very possessive of - must go back tomorrow and get it for him.)
All fresh and bathed, even, if rather smelling of BPAL (kinda perfumey)

Neutered, intelligent, young, friendly... BUT.
There's always the BUT...
my dogs don't like him. (did you know they are cross-bred with Dingos?)
And he thinks my cats look like fun (That Dingo's got my Kitty!!  0_o)
Fast flying herding fun.

I just did a little reading... and yup - this is not a good match for me.
Kids, cats, other dogs: Niko, and Juno the Alpha-B*tch, and Cassanova Kitty (Dealer of Black Eyes)... nope.

Besides - I don't even have any cows.

So back to making all the required "Found This Dog" calls to the shelters in the area, etc...
And then finding a foster home or Forever Home for this guy...
And tracking down WHY there is a "Found, Australian Cattle Dog" ad in the local once-a-week rag. Seems a bit odd that there'd be TWO of 'em lost in this area...?

But then again, we do have cows around.

I am TIRED.
Cattle Dog, anyone?
(and Bastet...? Quit LAUGHING at me!!)

The things we do for the love of animals...
We're dogsitting for a couple of dogs this week. Our cat, Cassanova reallllllly does not like one of them. He was all boofed up and ready to kill the dog, and I tried to herd him out the door. And so he beat me up instead - hopefully purely by accident in a fit of kitty-rage. The puncture wound he gave me on the face bled like crazy, and then started to color up - My cat gave me a black eye!

Gnat's Pee Tea
Originally uploaded by *~W€nÐy~*~M€hnÐi~*
Kelly, Jacqui, Linda... this one's for you!

This illustration was inspired by Late Night Tea with the folks from across the ocean after the Faerie Balls at Faeriecon 2007. According to Kelly, there's 2 kinds of tea. Builder's Tea (really strong) and "Gnat's P* Tea" - where you show the kettle the tea bag and then quickly hide it! LOL!! The phrase cracked me up so much I had to create this illustration of this wee faerie lady with a gnat perched on her finger. It was Quinn's idea to add the pooch on the left - looking on with surprise. Cuppa, anyone?

OMG. This is about 8 miles from my house.
I wonder at the impact.......... on taxes, ...property values, traffic...?
The convenience sure would be nice. We have to drive about 20-30min to most stores.
And yet we could go see movies. In a theatre. Easily.
And by the time this thing is all built, the kids could take their dates to movies.

Wow.

Retail center planned near Mebane

A center like The Streets at Southpoint could be built at I-40 and Buckhorn Road

CHAPEL HILL - Local developers have applied to build a 128-acre retail center at Interstates 40-85 and Buckhorn Road in rural Orange County. The project, approaching The Streets at Southpoint in size at 1.1 million square feet, could generate an estimated $7.2 million a year in sales and property taxes, according to the developers' application.
The site sits just outside Mebane, which would supply water and sewer service, said Craig Benedict, county planning director. It includes the site of the Buckhorn Flea Market.

I learned 3 things yesterday:

1) DO NOT (I repeat, DO NOT) wear Crocs Clogs in the rain.
I slid & fell down TWICE walking to fetch my car. (OWWie!)
I thought those things were supposed to be *good* in the rain? They slide on wet concrete/asphalt incredibly well, and rather unexpectedly!

2) Clothing made from that knit "slinky" fabric can and will hold a *phenomenal* amount of water. Yet holds up well to forced contact with asphalt.

3) There is not always a clear path from A to B. This will become far less apparent when walking in pouring rain, entailing backtracking and pants-soaking traipses thru sodden shrubbery.

Other than that? Viva la Rain!
...this *is* rain, right? This wet stuff falling sometimes in bucket loads from the skies...?
